Looking Out The Window: Linda Weaver Clarke Talks About One Last Dance And Her Personal Connection To It. Shares Her Mother's Christmas Pudding Recipe

A Warm Welcome to Linda Weaver Clarke

Hi Linda, first, tell us a little about yourself.

I was raised among the Rocky Mountains of southern Idaho and now live in southern Utah. I am the author of 24 books—which includes Historical Romance, Mystery Suspense, Cozy Mysteries, and historical/Adventure Romance. I am also a missionary at the Family Search Center where I help people find their ancestors and learn about their heritage.

Tell us about your latest book.

One Last Dance is a Historical Romance with a mystery to solve. It’s set in 1835. Felicity Brooks is a talented artist but her career is cut short when her father passes away. Realizing the importance of family, she travels home to care for her mother. When Felicity meets their new neighbor, a fine-looking bachelor, she soon discovers that he is hiding his true identity. Nicholas Adams is on a quest. But that is not all. When she finds out that someone is after a valuable heirloom…a precious treasure that her father discovered in his attic, her life takes a new turn.

What do you love about this book?

I love the theme to this story. One Last Dance was a dream I had after my father passed away. It was difficult to lose my father because I had never had a chance to visit him before he died. The dream I had seemed to help me as I said my “goodbyes” in One Last Dance. Yes, the theme is personal and I love that about this book.

I'm sorry for your loss, but appreciate your sharing that with us.

In three words describe your style of writing.

Descriptive, romantic, humorous

How do you get to know your characters?

I learn about them and develop their personality. I put myself into their shoes and live their life along with my character. I feel what they feel. I laugh when they laugh. And I cry when they’re sad.

Does your faith affect your writing? If so, how?

Yes. It definitely does. My faith in God is strong, so it’s easy to give my characters the same belief.

Do you put yourself in your books?

I don’t usually put myself into my books, but I’ll put others in my books. Sometimes I’ll add some quirky thing that one of my daughters had done or an experience that my husband had that is just too funny not to include… just to add a bit of humor in my story.

Would you like to share a review of this book with us?

Author Katrina Hart read and reviewed this story. Here is her review: “One thing that always keeps me reading this author’s books is her characters; they are engaging, funny and passionate. I especially liked Mr. Adams’ character as he was both witty and charming with an air of mystery about him. I was impressed by Felicity’s character. She was a strong woman who had seen some of the world, only to end up back home where everything feels different. I liked the quirky bond between Mr. Adams and Felicity. He has her pegged from the start and from the moment they meet you can tell at some point sparks will fly, and they will challenge each other’s perspectives on the problem at hand, which made this book rather gripping. One Last Dance kept me guessing until the end and left me wanting to read this book all over again. If you like Historical Romance with a mysterious touch and well-developed characters, this book is a must-read.”

This was a great interview! Linda, thak you so much for sharing the story of your father with us. It is very touching. All your books are so wonderful and I can't wait to read this one, too. Best of luck with your writing and Merry Christmas.

Gail, thank you so much for featuring another fine author on your lovely, informative blog. Linda Weaver Clarke is truly an outstanding writer and a fantastic person and friend (like you!). It's always a treat to pop in to "Peering Through Life's Window" and read your newest post. Thanks for such a great blog. Merry Christmas!
I have read two of your books, Linda. It is high time I read another one. This book sounds as interesting as the other two I read. I'm envious of your wide range of genres in your many novels. I'm undecided whether to spring for the digital or print copy of your Last Dance work. I've always liked historical novels like yours. My writings don't go that far back in time. You are a very interesting lady and thanks, Gail for featuring Linda. I'm sorry I've missed so many of your interesting authors.

Thanks for sharing your book with us Linda and Thanks for the interview and for sharing it on your blog Gail
Sounds great I can't wait to read it
Thank you, everyone, for your comments. One of the things that I love about historical romance is that we get to see what it was like to live way back during the time of our ancestors. That has always intrigued me. Historical romance gives us a look at a different time period, sort of like "peering through life's window" in the past. Haha.

Looking Out the Window: Memories on the Heart

Several weeks ago my husband, Rick, and I ate at a restaurant we frequent fairly regularly. The cute, young waitress who usually waits on us took our orders for burgers and fries. I’ll call her Mandy. As usual Mandy’s smile and bubbly personality brightened our day. We giggled and confessed to her that we shouldn’t eat the fries, but we were going to do it just this once. She joked. “Okay, you’re being bad today.” Not long after we got our food a couple came in and sat in the booth behind us. Mandy walked up to the table with her big grin. “Hi, how are you?” she asked. The man, who had salt and pepper colored hair and a pudgy face, spoke in a harsh tone, “I want the steak.” “Sure, which one would you like?” Mandy asked. “I don’t want you to put it in the microwave. That will make it tough. Do you understand?” Mandy’s lips turned down. “Yes sir, which one do you want to order?” “I want it medium rare. I don’t want blood oozing out of it. I want it cooked right.” “Yes sir, which steak di

It's my pleasure.  I’m happy to share with you a Bible verse and a recipe, and tell you about my newest book! One of my favorite Bible verses is Romans 10:9.  “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” I love this verse because it distills down the message of Christianity to its simplest elements. So often people add to the gospel, but it really all comes down to our belief in Jesus’ saving work on the cross. This verse tends to make its way into my writing. It’s in my latest novel, Moonlight and Mystery, when the heroine, Beth attends a carnival at a

If so, what did you read? I was an avid reader as a child, which I credit to my mom, who read to us and encouraged a love for books. Two of my favorite books were Wacky Wednesday and Harry the Dirty Dog. When I was older, I enjoyed reading Trixie Belden, Nancy Drew, and Little House on the Prairie. Why do you write?
