I am the wife of one, the mother of two, and the grandmother of five. Retired, I enjoy spending time with my husband and Zoe, our Jack Russell “Terrorist.” I have a BA in English/Education and have taught children from kindergarten to high school age. My last job was in the international sales department of a medical device manufacturer. Were you an avid reader as a child? If so, what did you read? Oh, yes! I read everything I could find. I particularly enjoyed mysteries and tales of adventure. We lived in England during part of my childhood and got hooked on the Fantastic Five series. Two of my other favorites were Heidi and Robinson Crusoe.

A Warm Welcome To Kathleen Neely Hi Kathleen, thanks for visiting and sharing your devotional about the New Year Here it is, mid-January, two weeks into the new year. If I’d made New Year’s resolutions, this is about the time I’d be feeling the disappointment of breaking them. As 2018 stepped aside and ushered in a new year, I was reminded that time is a tool of man. Using God’s creation, we divided it into years, months, weeks, days, hours. I could go on, but you get the picture. We look at the changing of a year as a monumental event, but the Bible has something different to say. God’s word shows time as a continuous phenomenon. He says that his mercies are new every morning (Lam.3:23). He says that the old has passed away (2Cor.5:17). And He says that He is making all things new (Rev.21:5). There isn’t an isolated moment in time when we receive His mercies. Instead, they are bestowed on us daily. God knows how hard it is to stay the course, whatever your goals may be.

photo courtesy Google Some say Christ wasn’t born on December 25th. They claim Christians took the date from a Roman holiday honoring the sun or a sun god. While modern historians disagree about this theory many agree that the Romans revered the sun. Some claim Christians took the date to rival the pagan feasts that took place during the Winter Solstice, which honored a new age brought by the sun. Depending on location, the Winter Solstice occurs on or around December 25th. Every year in late October, festive decorations acknowledging the birth of Christ begin to appear in overwhelming numbers across the American landscape. By early December, a majority of homes have wreaths on their doors, candles in their windows, lights in the yards and red bows on their mailboxes. And jolly old Santa Claus sits in the middle of the mall to greet youngsters. Nativity scenes abound on people’s lawns, and this country’s biggest celebration continues until after December 25th, so when is Chri
