I’m a retired high school teacher, living in Eastern Ontario, Canada. I’m married with three adult children and 5 grandchildren. I’m an introvert, preferring to spend my spare time with a good book or movie. In the summer I enjoy traveling and camping. In the winter I stay indoors by the fire. We you always an avid reader? If so, what did you read? I’m asthmatic, and in the 50’s and early 60’s when I was growing up, there were no inhalers like there are today. Each time I had an attack, I was hospitalized, and so I spent a lot of time in bed. Reading was my escape. I loved Nancy Drew books as well as the Donna Parker series. As I got older,

Looking Out the Window: Catherine West Talks about Her New Book, Bridge of Faith. She'll Give Away a Copy.

A Warm Welcome to Catherine West Catherine will give away an e-book OR a print book. To enter to win leave a comment and an e-mail address below     Hi Catherine. First, tell us a little about yourself. Let’s see – the first thing people ask when they meet me, is “How did you end up in Bermuda?”  Actually I had the good fortune to be born here. My parents were already living here and quite settled into island life by the time I came along, and here we all remained. Growing up on a tiny island has its advantages, in that I’ve done a lot of traveling, and it’s definitely a simpler way of life. I love it. When I’m not writing, I’ll work in my garden (which is in a sorry state right now!), walk my dog and hang out with my family. I also love to sing, and I’m on the worship team at our church. I kind of have a crush on the worship leader guy. (Who I happen to be married to, btw). We have two grown up kids, our daughter and her husband live in Bermuda, and our son is just abo

Looking Out the Window: Deborah Piccurelli Talks about Her New Novella, Love Comes Calling

A Warm Welcome to Derborah Piccurelli Deborah will give away an e-book. To enter to win leave a comment and an e-mail address below. Many writers have loved to read as long as they can remember. Were you an avid reader as a child? If so, what did you read? Yes, I was. The books that most stick out in my mind are The Three Little Kittens (I was about 2 or 3 yrs. old), Madeline (5 or 6 years), and at around 8 yrs., I remember a book with stories about Barbie, the doll, and her boyfriend, Ken. I don’t remember the exact title, though. Neat. Why do you write? I write because I just have to. Otherwise, I don’t know what I’d do with all this stuff going on in my head. About Love Comes Calling , Deborah's Latest Book      The day new Christian, Derek Spencer, shows up on Charlie Parkes’s doorstep to make up for what he’d done, is the very day he falls in love with her. But Charlie’s sister mistakes him for a home improvement contractor, and he decides to play alo

Looking Out the Window: Amy Cattapan Talks about Her New Book, Angelhood. Gives Away a Copy.

A Warm Welcome to Amy Cattapan   Amy will give away an e-book. To enter to win leave a comment and an e-mail address below First, tell us a little about yourself. I’m a middle school English teacher in the suburbs of Chicago. I’ve wanted to be a writer since the sixth grade. In fact, by eighth grade I boldly declared in the yearbook that I would be the author of teen novels. What do you know! It actually came true! I have four brothers, so I was well steeped in Star Wars, Star Trek, and Chicago Cubs baseball growing up. While a lot of people ask if my four brothers teased me when I was little, the worst I can really complain about are the plastic spiders. Mostly, I remember them twirling my pigtails in Princess Leia buns. As an adult, I’ve spent my spare time pursuing my many interests and passions. For example, I’ve taken a variety of dance classes, including tap, jazz, salsa, and ballroom. I love to run and have completed many 5Ks and 10 Ks, along with two half mara

Looking in the Window: Welcome to Spring

I'm so happy to see Spring. Here's a poem to celebrate. It was originally published in              Best New Poets of 1988.                        COUNTRY SPRING   For a peek at heaven, God gave us a country spring. where soft winds dance on open fields and gently caress golden daffodils nodding, nodding, nodding... they seem to say, "Welcome, bright new day."   Gentle drops of morning dew kiss the roses and honeysuckle too. Each sweet bloom has its own perfume.   Yellow bells mark the way for radiant colors bursting into each new day, The rhododendron, pink, or fair lilies white. It's all nature's delight.   Gail Pallotta   HAPPY SPRING!

I’m always awe-struck at the very first sentence. These few words are simple, beautiful, and profound. They speak to my writer’s heart like nothing else ever has: “In the beginning, there was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1 About The Tomb “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.” In this captivating retelling of a classic biblical story, Jesus shocks the town of Bethany with Lazarus’s resurrection from the dead, leading Martha—a seemingly perfect woman trapped by the secrets of her past—to

Sometimes It’s Hard to be Content I Timothy 6:8 says, “Having food and raiment (clothes) let us be content. In my novel, With Music in Their Hearts , Emma Jaine Rayner, really wanted to be content and in many ways, was. She had a business she loved. She enjoyed the company of her tenants and their varied personalities. She adored her family, and she lived a comfortable life. But . . . She grew tired (although she wouldn’t admit it!) of the constant responsibility of caring for her family, and her inability in “making” them do as she thought they should. She worried about the more problematic residents. And she yearned for a man of her own. What’s a woman to do? I love the thought of being content. That place where you feel satisfied and pleasant and have ease of mind. Euphoric experience, right? That’s
