Sharon's Mom Nourish the Body -- Pumpkin Bread 2 & 2/3 Cups flour 3 Cups sugar 1 & 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons baking soda 2 teaspoons cinnamon 2 teaspoons nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 4 Eggs 1 Cup oil 2/3 Cup water 2 Cups pumpkin 1 Cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts) Preheat oven to 325. Spray your bunt pan with Pam Baking spray, set aside. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl to completely combined. Pour into pan and bake for 1 hour. Since oven temps vary, after an hour touch the top of the cake, if it doesn't feel done to you give it 5-10 more minutes. Insert a toothpick, if it comes out with moist crumbs attached, you're done. NOURISH THE BODY - The Apple Crisp                                                When I pondered what favorite recipe to share, I thought about the characters in my latest book, Bluebird of Brockport , A Novel of the Erie Canal, and asked myself what they might have been able to create on an Erie Canal boat in 1830. The answer came to me fairly quickly: Apple Crisp. It’s extremely simple and all of the ingredients would have been readily available in the early nineteenth century.
