Kelly's Favorite Bible Verse

"Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him and he shall bring it to pass." Psalms 37:4-5 NKJV

Eliza's Buttermilk Biscuits

Recipe: 2 cups unbleached flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon sugar

½ teaspoon salt

One stick (½ cup) cold unsalted butter

¾ cup cold buttermilk

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Measure out dry ingredients into a large bowl and keep in the freezer while getting everything ready. Cut cold butter into small cubes, dropping into flour mixture. Use a food processor fitted with a metal blade, two knives, a pastry blender, or your fingers to cut in the butter until it is worked through and crumbly. Work quickly. If using the food processor, do quick pulses. Stir buttermilk into flour mixture using a rubber spatula forming a ball. Dump out onto floured surface quickly kneading into a ball, careful not to overwork. Cut with a sharp knife into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rough ball and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes until golden. Serve immediately.

About Eliza's Hope

On the ship from Ireland, Eliza O’Connor loses her mother and husband to cholera. She longs to become a doctor after training under the local physician, but few schools accept women. Now that the doctor has passed away, she works at her father's boarding house. When a handsome doctor arrives beaten and stripped of his jacket and boots, she believes he's another gold-crazy miner heading for the hills where her brother has ventured.

At his mother's desperate request, Dr. Levi Dumont travels from Boston to find his younger brother and bring him home. After Levi is robbed and beaten, his trustworthy horse drops him in back of the O'Connor's Boarding House where the enchanting Eliza treats his wounds.

When Eliza's brother returns from the gold fields with a broken leg, Eliza learns her friend needs medical attention. Eliza is determined to make the treacherous journey. When she accompanies Levi to Diamond Falls, Levi discovers affection for Eliza despite his engagement to a woman in Boston.

Though Eliza and Levi come from different worlds, their hopes are the same. Will Eliza find opportunity to study medicine? Can Levi find a life with Eliza despite his fiancé and medical practice in Boston?

Sonja, what fun it was to work with my daughter. I hope you love the recipe. I took a class in Nashville, TN on making homemade biscuits, and I've still yet to master the art. 🤣

I thoroughly enjoy writing this book with my mom. I hope everyone loves it. Thank you, Gail, for having us on your blog. We have asked the question, what is worth more than gold. Well, the time spent working together with my mom on this book is worth far more than gold to me.

Thank you for taking the time to do this interview. As a former homeschooling mom of 5, I am amazed at what you have accomplished.
Hi June and Kelly: It is indeed a blessing to join in family for writing. I did that with a work buddy, but we could not gain acceptance. Good experience anyway. I go for clean romance in my reading and writing. Gail you always have interesting folks on your blog. I wish you, June and Kelly, well with your writing now and in the future. Sorry to come in at the eleventh hour on commenting. Email here is lhammersley@comcast.net.

Shirley, I admire anyone who homeschools. And Kelly did a wonderful joy of teaching her children. Some through high school. Thanks for commenting.

Looking Out the Window: Memories on the Heart

Several weeks ago my husband, Rick, and I ate at a restaurant we frequent fairly regularly. The cute, young waitress who usually waits on us took our orders for burgers and fries. I’ll call her Mandy. As usual Mandy’s smile and bubbly personality brightened our day. We giggled and confessed to her that we shouldn’t eat the fries, but we were going to do it just this once. She joked. “Okay, you’re being bad today.” Not long after we got our food a couple came in and sat in the booth behind us. Mandy walked up to the table with her big grin. “Hi, how are you?” she asked. The man, who had salt and pepper colored hair and a pudgy face, spoke in a harsh tone, “I want the steak.” “Sure, which one would you like?” Mandy asked. “I don’t want you to put it in the microwave. That will make it tough. Do you understand?” Mandy’s lips turned down. “Yes sir, which one do you want to order?” “I want it medium rare. I don’t want blood oozing out of it. I want it cooked right.” “Yes sir, which steak di

It's my pleasure.  I’m happy to share with you a Bible verse and a recipe, and tell you about my newest book! One of my favorite Bible verses is Romans 10:9.  “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” I love this verse because it distills down the message of Christianity to its simplest elements. So often people add to the gospel, but it really all comes down to our belief in Jesus’ saving work on the cross. This verse tends to make its way into my writing. It’s in my latest novel, Moonlight and Mystery, when the heroine, Beth attends a carnival at a

We have two sons and six grandchildren. We live in PA, between two mountains.   Were you an avid reader as a child? If so, what did you read? Oh yes! Not only did I read a lot, but my mom also read to me and my brothers.
