Looking out the Window: Penelope Marzec Talks about The Keeper's Secret, her New Romantic Suspense

A Warm Welcome to Penelope Marzec First tell us a little about yourself. I grew up in a small town close to a bay beach. Everyone knew everyone else in that little town and there weren’t any secrets. In those days, the windows were open in the summertime because nobody had air conditioners. There were plenty of kids, all baby boomers. Most of the women didn’t work back then while raising their children and my mother was a kind listener who would also hand out good advice if asked. So, many of the women in the neighborhood came over to our house for a cup of coffee and a chat with my mom. Later in life, I told her she should have hung out a shingle proclaiming herself a counselor. Of course, as a youngster I listened to all the chatter, which is why I have lots of stories in my head.  When I was nine, I wrote my first “book” on yellow legal paper with green ink. I illustrated it, too. I knew it wasn’t good enough to be published but I enjoyed the process of writing so muc...

Looking out the Window: Karen Malley Talks About A Second Chance for Grace. Gives Away an E-book.

A Warm Welcome to Karen Malley To win an e-Book of A Second Chance for Grace leave a comment and an email address below.  Hi Karen, let's talk about your writing. Where do you get ideas for your books? From everywhere! From people I talk with in real life, from news stories, even sometimes from dreams. Anything can become a story. After I finished Following the Sparrows, I knew I wanted to continue the story of some of the secondary characters. The article said sometimes folks leave unusual items behind. Suddenly Susan’s job and a creative twist to the story was born. Do you have to juggle writing with a job, family responsibilities or other obligations? How do you balance it? Honestly, juggling is a good word for it. I work full time as a scientist (which was the inspiration for the heroine i...

Looking Out the Window: Lisa Lickel Talks about Her Latest Book, Gives Away a Copy and Shares a Recipe

It’s my great pleasure to welcome Lisa Lickel today. To enter to win a copy of The Newspaper Code leave a comment and e-mail address. Hi Lisa, first, tell us a little about yourself. Thanks for having me here, Gail. Always fun to visit! I grew up in a family of teachers and readers, so it was a big shock to learn that not everyone liked school or…gasp…books. How can that be? Although I’ve always been an avid reader, writing never occurred to me until I started working with our local historical society to put together an anniversary book. A friend taught me about press releases, and I wrote some articles for the newspaper. Then I took an online course from the Christian Writers Guild and started selling articles before I finished. I moved on to novels from there. I’m still learning, still growing. You're writing some terrific books. Tell us about your latest. The Newspaper Code is the third book in the cozy mystery Buried Treasure series. It takes place only a fe...
