One Day Heaven Was Open Those five words from “One Day” rang in my head as I contemplated this post. The hymn is a beautiful story of Christ’s redemptive love, but those lyrics came to mind for a different reason. There had been a day in my life when Heaven had opened, and I saw clearly my Savior who bled and died for me. Since that day, there have been other times when the Lord has shown Himself real to me. One particular time I will never forget occurred one very early foggy morning. While driving to work, I passed an entrance ramp onto Interstate 95. An overwhelming prompting from the Holy Spirit urged me powerfully with one word. “Pray.” Then a still, small voice said, “Pray for Ethan.” Ethan is my grown son. I knew he would have been on his way to work in the fog driving on the interst...

Prayer and Jesus I believe in Jesus. I know He is listening to my prayers. Obviously, I cannot prove it. While there have been a few times I received some specific nudges in the right direction, one particular event remains so crystal clear I can only assume it was divine intervention. It all started because I was worried about my middle sister. She had been dating a man for a long, long time. He didn’t have any ambition and appeared to be rather lackadaisical about everything. He assumed they would marry, but he didn’t date her every weekend. I had strong doubts about the fellow. Finally, I decided to do something about it. I asked my sister if she had questioned this man about important issues related to marriage. For instance, what would he do if she had a baby? Would she be able to stay home...

Looking Out The Window: Prayer, Miracles and Testimonies. Ada Brownell Talks About Her Collection of Fifty-five Articles, What Prayer Can Do

A Warm Welcome to Ada Brownell Hi Ada, first, tell us a little about yourself. I’ve been writing for decades and yet I still discover things I want to tell people through the printed page. One of the ways to do this is op-ed pieces for the two newspapers who accept my opinion writing. My next one will be about how Christian missionaries have changed the world in my lifetime. Why do you write? I feel called by God to share some of the important things in life I’ve seen and learned. When I retired from the newspaper, I thought of writing medical material, such as how to care for a baby who has the croup, how to bring down a fever, and that sort thing that new parents don’t seem to know how to do. We lived 90 miles from a doctor when my first two children were young and there are still people like that. But using my talent strictly for Lord won. Tell us about your latest book. What Prayer Can Do is a collection of 55 of my articles published in The Pentecostal Evan...
