Many writers have loved to read as long as they can remember. Were you an avid reader as a child? If so, what did you read?

Yes, I was. The books that most stick out in my mind are The Three Little Kittens (I was about 2 or 3 yrs. old), Madeline (5 or 6 years), and at around 8 yrs., I remember a book with stories about Barbie, the doll, and her boyfriend, Ken. I don’t remember the exact title, though.

Neat. Why do you write?

I write because I just have to. Otherwise, I don’t know what I’d do with all this stuff going on in my head.

The day new Christian, Derek Spencer, shows up on Charlie Parkes’s doorstep to make up for what he’d done, is the very day he falls in love with her. But Charlie’s sister mistakes him for a home improvement contractor, and he decides to play along until he finds a way to tell her who he really is.
Charlie is attracted to Derek, but knows the attention he pays her is only flattery. How could such a great-looking guy fall for someone with a face like hers? Nevertheless, the two form a relationship that brings a joy to Charlie that’s way beyond her wildest dreams.

What do you love about this book? And what do you hope readers will tell others about it?

It’s unique storyline, and the characters. I hope readers will tell others that they were highly
entertained; that they couldn’t put it down; that it tugged on their heartstrings.

Where do you get ideas for your books?

Love Comes Calling is a sweet romance, but most of what I write is cause and issue-related romantic suspense. For those books, I get ideas from newspapers, magazines, television news shows and the internet.

How do you get to know your characters?

I get to know them some before I put anything on paper, and then more closely during the writing process.
What is your writing schedule and where do you write?

The word “schedule” makes me laugh! I don’t have a schedule. I write whenever I can grab the time.

Are you a plotter or a pantzer?

Definitely a pantzer! I may write a list of things that will happen in the book, but that’s it. I call that my outline. I just have to write as it comes. I do wish I were more organized and practical about my writing, as some authors are.

Do you put yourself in your books?

Never! I wouldn’t make an interesting character. LOL!

What are you working on right now?

The pilot script for a futuristic television drama. This is something the Lord impressed upon me to write now, and lay aside the book I had been working on.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

Study, study, study, even after publication. Attend conferences and workshops. You can never learn enough.
Develop a thick skin. Not everyone will love your writing.
Never give up.

What would you be doing if you weren’t writing?

I’m not sure. I might be singing (though I’m not very good at it); or I might be acting (but I’ve never tried it); I would never go back to secretarial work (been there, done that). But it’s very possible I would be lazing around the house, watching TV and eating bon-bons all day. LOL!

Several weeks ago my husband, Rick, and I ate at a restaurant we frequent fairly regularly. The cute, young waitress who usually waits on us took our orders for burgers and fries.
