Hi Jodie, first, tell us a little about yourself and your writing.

I've been weaving stories since I was a little girl, although I didn't get my first one published until four years ago. My husband and I have been married for 32 years; we have two grown, married sons, and six grandchildren.

Were you an avid reader as a child? If so, what did you read?

Most definitely! I always had a book with me. Some of my favorites were Little House on the Prairie series, Trixie Beldon, and Nancy Drew.

Tell us about your latest book.

In 1875, Kansas bachelor Drew Montgomery's sole desire is to serve God, but his congregation's ultimatum that he marry or leave, forces him to advertise for a wife by proxy.

Jules Walker strides into Drew's life wearing breeches and toting a gun and saddle--more cowboy than bride. After years on the trail, she's not exactly wife material, but she longs for home and family, and will do anything to ensure Drew never discovers what she really is.

What inspired you to write this particular book?

I've always had a fascination with the mail-order bride era, and I wondered what would happen if a man sent for a genteel wife and the woman who showed up was anything but that.

What do you love about this book? And what do you hope readers will tell others about it?

My heroine was so much fun to write because she's a mixture of naiveté, boldness, quirky, and secrets. I hope readers will be excited to meet Jules Montgomery and want to tell others about her story to faith and understanding of God.

What themes do you write about?

My tagline is 'Stories Where Hope and Quirky Meet'. I always include quirky characters and write about the true hope that can only be found through Jesus Christ.

Are you a plotter or a pantzer?

According to your question, I'm a plotzer. I do a fair amount of plotting, but once my characters are fully developed, they have a tendency to take over and make the story go in a certain direction. Often I'm the one holding on as they share what's going on in their lives.

Does your faith affect your writing? If so, how?

I wouldn't say it affects my writing as much as it's a part of my writing in the same way that faith is just a natural part of my life. It's not something added on, but part of the essence of my being.

What are you working on right now?

I'm working on the second book in my Burton Springs Bride series. The book has a working title of either Wooing Annie or Protecting Annie. Jules decides to return the favor and send for a bride for her brother.

I'm also working on a story set in the town where I went to college that deals with the topic of belonging. That one's called Hannah's Quest.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

Trust God and His timing. He knows what's best. Even when the answer is long in coming, we can trust that He is working and moving in our life.

What would you be doing if you weren’t writing?

When I'm not writing, I'm either reading, knitting, or spending time with my husband. He's my best friend and my hero!

Jodie, I can relate to God's timing. I had my first book published last September-- and I was 69. Took that long for God to get me ready!
