Looking In The Window: The Weight of a Tiny Acorn

I heard something hit my deck like a ten-pound weight. I looked out the window, and there lay an acorn.

So, how much could an acorn weigh? I looked it up. Roughly, not quite an ounce for a small one and around three ounces for a large one. They’ve continued to pound the boards on my deck, and it’s covered in nuts from our mighty oak trees.

As a Christian I can see myself as one of those tiny acorns and ask what difference could I possibly make in a world filled with so many people with so many opinions. But today as another acorn hit a different voice spoke to me. Armed with the strength and power of the Gospel, how much weight could a Christian carry if he or she spreads the Good News over the world like millions of acorns?

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5: 14 - 16.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28: 19.
