It's my pleasure. Thanks for sharing Bible verses and a yummy recipe with us.

My favorite Bible verses have always been Philippians 4:6-7. How can one not like a verse that says “Do not be anxious about anything…”  After I received a breast cancer diagnosis, I added the preceding verses to my favorites. Philippians 4:4-5 says: “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all.”

How does one rejoice with cancer? I knew no matter the outcome of my diagnosis that I would be with God in Heaven. My eternal life starts on this earth, doing life with Jesus each day. I also had my church family and Christians all over the country praying for me and letting me know they cared. I received some delicious meals, too. The encouragement of the saints strengthened me during surgeries and treatment. Through trials, I could rejoice in the Lord’s saving grace, rejoice in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, rejoice in the church body, rejoice in God’s Word, and rejoice in each new day the Lord gave me.

That's a wonderful testimony. 

About Barbara's Recipe

My husband is in a Bible study that meets in the morning. The men request my egg casserole often. This recipe is a favorite of mine and easy to put together. If I chop and grate ingredients the night before, the morning assembly is a snap.

In my novel Lioness: Mahlah’s Journey, the Israelites receive manna from God for sustenance. Is my recipe tastier than bread arriving with the dew of morning? We will never know. Enjoy.

Zippy Sausage and Egg Casserole

1 package crescent rolls— I buy the sheet of dough.

1 pound ground sausage, cooked—I buy the small log of original pork sausage and crumble it with a spatula while I cook it.

1 cup Monterey Jack cheese

1 cup Cheddar cheese

7 eggs

1 cup milk (I use 2%)

2 tablespoons chopped green pepper

¼ teaspoon oregano

Dash of salt and pepper (you can always add more at the table, but you can’t take it out)

If you have a busy morning, cook the sausage, chop the green pepper, and grate the cheese the night before and place them in the fridge. Grease (Pam) a 9 x 13 pan. Press crescent roll dough into pan so that the dough is slightly coming up the sides. Cover dough with cooked sausage. Sprinkle green pepper over sausage. Sprinkle cheese over pepper/sausage. Whisk or beat eggs lightly in a bowl. Add milk, oregano, and salt and pepper. Mix and then pour over sausage combination evenly. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Center should be firm. If not, bake a few minutes more. I like the sides to be a golden brown. Enjoy! Refrigerate any uneaten casserole.

While the Israelites struggle to occupy the Promised Land of God, Mahlah bat Zelophehad is orphaned and left to care for her four sisters. But daughters of the dead are unable to inherit land, and it will take a miracle for Mahlah to obtain the means to care for her sisters and uphold the vow she made to her dying mother. 

Mahlah must seek Moses, the leader of her people, and request something extraordinary—the right for a daughter to inherit her deceased father’s land. A right that will upset the ox-cart of male inheritance and cast her in the role of a rebel. 

But, God is the protector of the orphan and the widow, and five orphaned daughters need His help. With God, anything is possible. Even changing man’s tradition.

Lioness is the beginning of a series, but you don’t have to follow the girls through the book of Joshua in the subsequent books. Their quest for land is found in Lioness.

The book tells the story of five orphaned sisters who asked Moses if they could inherit their deceased father’s land. The daughters of Zelophehad are amazing in their bravery and in their faith in God. Not many people know about these historic girls. You can read their story in Scripture in Numbers 26:33, 27:1-11, 36:1-12 and Joshua 17:3-6.
