Hi Regina, thanks for sharing your thoughts about traveling and your books.

We Are All Travelers

The Christmas season is one that is always filled with hope, excitement, and most of all anticipation. It is also a time when many travel to meet their loved ones and to be reunited with family. In thinking about Christmas and the theme of traveling, the voyage of the Holy Family comes to my mind instantly. They had to travel long hours, day and night, over rugged terrain to finally find a stable where the baby could be born.

And all through his life, Jesus seemed to travel, meeting as many people as he could while he went from town to town. As our Savior, he was traveling in an effort to help others find salvation. And even today, we know that people are on a journey to find salvation.

The theme of traveling and the quest for security, stability, and love touches both of my most recent books in very different ways. In one, the heroine has to travel away from her family to find the freedom to live her faith in Christ. And in the second one, the heroine travels back to her family and her hometown to find the truth that she has not known for many years.

Common to both of these experiences is one thing: love is the driving force behind the journeys and love from another individual assists each of these heroines in finding the truth that they are so desperately seeking. And this support and encouragement does not always come from the individual that each heroine would expect it to come from.”

Looking inside, is it possible that we may encounter someone on a journey and be a positive factor in that journey? Just as Jesus traveled and persisted in his efforts to spread the word and help others find salvation, so can we be helpers when we see others along the way. Whatever they are looking for, it is possible that we might be able to assist them in finding what they are seeking. Christmastime is a glorious reminder of the redemptive power of putting yourself in someone else’s traveling shoes.

About Light a Christmas Candle

What are the chances that accidentally knocking over someone’s trash cans on a dark street would lead to a new lease on life?

Moving to Chestnut Crossings is Lucy Carrington‘s only chance to live her Christian beliefs free from ridicule. But when she runs over the church trash cans, her new beginning gets off to a rocky start. Thankfully, the pastor is as forgiving as he is handsome.

Pastor Jim Sullivan is impressed by Lucy. She’s a woman of her word and doesn’t seem to take the easy way out. But when he offers her a job, he soon discovers her quirks---she’s always late, embraces as a blessing something he views as a curse, and is hiding something about her past...not that Jim should judge. He has issues of his own he’d like to keep hidden.

In Light a Christmas Candle, discover a holiday season filled with challenges, forgiveness, love, and restoration.

About Reflections of the Heart

Miami emerald merchandiser Paulette Preston is on her way to visit her sister Cascade in Sterling Lakes for Christmas. Cascade feels that the trip home will be good for her, but Paulette isn’t so sure. After all, the townsfolk of Sterling Lakes turned a blind eye to her abusive family situation as a child. Now, she intends to find out why.

Once in town she meets estate attorney Don Farrell and asks him to help her get the truth about the past. He is fascinated by her and helps her, despite his own dilemma: his colleague is embroiled in a shady deal that has turned dangerous. When she works with him on a prayer garden project at the church, the hardness around her heart begins to melt. Will she be freed up to live her life, reflecting God’s shining plan for her future? And will that future be with Don?

Reflections of the Heart is the first book in The Sisters of Sterling Lakes Series.

Gina, a beautiful post. Sometimes we don't have to physically journey toward what we are looking for. The sense of home driven by love is given to all by our Creator, who wants us to travel in our hearts until we find Him.

Looking Out the Window: Memories on the Heart

Several weeks ago my husband, Rick, and I ate at a restaurant we frequent fairly regularly. The cute, young waitress who usually waits on us took our orders for burgers and fries. I’ll call her Mandy. As usual Mandy’s smile and bubbly personality brightened our day. We giggled and confessed to her that we shouldn’t eat the fries, but we were going to do it just this once. She joked. “Okay, you’re being bad today.” Not long after we got our food a couple came in and sat in the booth behind us. Mandy walked up to the table with her big grin. “Hi, how are you?” she asked. The man, who had salt and pepper colored hair and a pudgy face, spoke in a harsh tone, “I want the steak.” “Sure, which one would you like?” Mandy asked. “I don’t want you to put it in the microwave. That will make it tough. Do you understand?” Mandy’s lips turned down. “Yes sir, which one do you want to order?” “I want it medium rare. I don’t want blood oozing out of it. I want it cooked right.” “Yes sir, which steak di

Psalm 40:1-3‚ “I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.” Can you think of a time when God helped you out of a low place? Perhaps something had caused you to spiral downward, or maybe like the Old Testament character, Jonah, you had run away from God so as not to have to do what He was asking of you.  Through this passage, we see that David was experiencing this first-hand. He was in a place of despair, yet God was gracious, and after some time, placed David in a new area of serv

Looking Out the Window: Brandy Heineman Talks about Writing and Her New Book, Whispers in the Braches

A Warm Welcome to Brandy Heineman Photo credit: Copyright Emilie Hendryx of E. A. Creative Photography, 2014. Hi Brandy, lots of writers enjoyed reading as a child. How about you? If so, what did you read? Oh, yes. I always loved to read. I adored mysteries— The Dollhouse Murders and Behind the Attic Wall come to mind—and of course I had my Baby-Sitters Club and Sweet Valley High phase, my Roald Dahl phase, my Judy Bloom phase . . . I was quite a bookish child, I’d say! About Whispers in the Branches In 1942, Ruby lost something. In 2012, Abby found it. Abby’s love life, career, and faith are in shambles when she first hears Great Aunt Ruby’s claims that the family home is haunted. Abby moves in, determined to shake out a ghost, but the secrets she discovers there aren’t the ones she hopes to find. Whispers in the Branches is my first novel.
