Looking out the Window: Coming Soon! Take a Sneak Peek into Hold for Release, a new Romantic Suspense by Heidi Glick.

A Warm Welcome to Heidi Glick

Hi Heidi, first, tell us a little about yourself.

I have lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Florida, California, and Canada (briefly—my parents were missionaries for a short period). I currently live in Northwest Ohio. I’m married and have two children and six pets. Before I became a writer, I taught science and edited science documents. Now, I stay at home with my kids and write fiction.

Lots of  writers loved to read as children. How about you? Were you an avid reader as a child? If so, what did you read?

As a child, I had insomnia, which I would later find out is most likely because of ADHD. I required little sleep and stayed up a lot. My family encouraged me to read at night. I read whatever was in my house, so mostly the Sugar Creek Gang Series. My family likes to tell the story of how I stayed up an entire night and read Charlotte’s Web. There is a huge age gap between me and my siblings, so I was like an only child. In my teens, I often like to spend time alone in my room writing stories.

Why do you write?

I write because I want to share the Gospel with others. I want others to know about God’s love and forgiveness. I don’t enjoy public speaking, but I like to share the Gospel through the written word.

Tell us about your latest book.

My latest book, Hold for Release, is a romantic suspense novel. Readers had mentioned they wanted to see more books with married couples. I came up with the idea for a story with a couple whose marriage is troubled and then worked that into the suspense plot.

What do you love about this book? And what do you hope readers will tell others about it?

What I love about this book is that, like many of my stories, it is about redemption and forgiveness. We live in a world where forgiveness and redemption aren’t as common. We have turned into a society where people are often cancelled for past decisions. And yet, I think many people are still searching for forgiveness and redemption. I hope they will read the story and find forgiveness and redemption through Jesus Christ.

In three words describe your style of writing.

I would describe my writing as humorous, suspenseful, and scintillating. My latest release is less humorous than some of my others. I wanted to do something different with this book, but most of my stories contain a bit of humor.

What themes do you write about?

As a Christian author, I write about redemption and forgiveness. Colossians 1:13-14 (KJV): Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:”

Do you have to juggle writing with a job, family responsibilities or other obligations? If so, how do you balance it?

I have to juggle writing along with my other family responsibilities. I write more during the school year while my kids are in class. In the summer, I have to be creative. I write less then, but I try to do some writing. Some authors get up early in the morning. I’m more of a night owl.

Are you a plotter or a pantzer?

I’m about 90% plotter. Over the years, I’ve become more of a plotter. I like to write. I don’t like to edit. The more I plot, the less I have to edit. Plus, I’m a more formulaic, algebra-brained type person. I like formulas and structure.

What are you working on right now?

Right now, I’m working on several projects. Mainly, I’m focused on a three-book series about EPA CID agents. Next, I’m working on a law enforcement story set in a small town in Ohio. Finally, I’m also working on a suspenseful Christmas story.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

I would encourage an aspiring writer to sign up for writing conferences. If you can’t afford to attend one in person, then attend an online conference. Learn as much as you can. Read books about writing. Join a professional writing organization and a critique group. Never stop learning! Even if you’ve been published, there is always more to learn.

Just for fun, tell us the most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you?

After I graduated from college, I took a job teaching high school science. On one of the first days of teaching, I wore these high heel clog shoes. I took attendance, then walked across the room to clip the attendance sheet to the door. I slipped and fell in front of my students. Thankfully, they waited until they knew I was okay before laughing.

Ahh, nice students, and they liked their teacher!

Looking Out the Window: Memories on the Heart

Several weeks ago my husband, Rick, and I ate at a restaurant we frequent fairly regularly. The cute, young waitress who usually waits on us took our orders for burgers and fries. I’ll call her Mandy. As usual Mandy’s smile and bubbly personality brightened our day. We giggled and confessed to her that we shouldn’t eat the fries, but we were going to do it just this once. She joked. “Okay, you’re being bad today.” Not long after we got our food a couple came in and sat in the booth behind us. Mandy walked up to the table with her big grin. “Hi, how are you?” she asked. The man, who had salt and pepper colored hair and a pudgy face, spoke in a harsh tone, “I want the steak.” “Sure, which one would you like?” Mandy asked. “I don’t want you to put it in the microwave. That will make it tough. Do you understand?” Mandy’s lips turned down. “Yes sir, which one do you want to order?” “I want it medium rare. I don’t want blood oozing out of it. I want it cooked right.” “Yes sir, which steak di

It's my pleasure.  I’m happy to share with you a Bible verse and a recipe, and tell you about my newest book! One of my favorite Bible verses is Romans 10:9.  “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” I love this verse because it distills down the message of Christianity to its simplest elements. So often people add to the gospel, but it really all comes down to our belief in Jesus’ saving work on the cross. This verse tends to make its way into my writing. It’s in my latest novel, Moonlight and Mystery, when the heroine, Beth attends a carnival at a
