Looking out the Window: Jodie Wolfe Adds a New Western, Convincing Lou, to her Burton Springs Brides Series.

A Warm Welcome to Jodie Wolfe

Hi Jodie, tell us a little about yourself.

Hi, thanks for having me here today, Gail.

It's my pleasure.

Let’s see, what can I say about myself. I live in southcentral PA. I’ve had a longing to write ever since I was a little girl. I currently write Christian historical romances. I love winter and snow. You’ll usually find me with a book close at hand, because I’m an avid reader. I love to walk and spend time with my husband.

Were you an avid reader as a child? If so, what did you read?

Yes! I loved Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House on the Prairie series. I also read the Encyclopedia Brown Series, Trixie Beldon Series, Nancy Drew, etc. I read more mysteries when I was younger than I do now. :)

Why do you write?

For me, writing is something God has called me to do. It’s a way of encouraging others to go deeper in their faith, even in the midst of difficulties they may be facing.

Tell us about your latest book.

How hard can it be to round up one delinquent groom?

Ellie Lou Williams will do just about anything to save her ranch, even going undercover as a man to round up a fella who is late to his own wedding. The reward will more than cover the money she owes the bank and solve all her problems.

Caleb Martin agrees to one final job as a deputy US Marshal before he starts his new life away from the trail and tracking criminals. What he isn’t counting on is a mysterious bounty hunter who’s determined to undermine his every step.

Will one reach their goal first? Or will they learn to lean on God and work together?

What inspired you to write this particular book?

Ellie Lou has been a part of my Burrton Springs Brides Series since book one. Usually as just a periphery character, although she did have more of an active role in book three, Wooing Gertrude. I decided Ellie Lou needed her own happily-ever-after.

Are you a plotter or a pantzer?

I call myself a plotzer – part plotter and part seat-of-the pantzer. I typically have a general idea where the story is going until my characters take over and decide where they want the book to go.

Does your faith affect your writing? How?

My faith is intertwined with me and my writing. It’s a natural part of me, like breathing, so it definitely comes out in almost everything I write.

Do you put yourself in your books?

There’s always a little bit of me in each of my heroines, although I’ll never tell you which part. Chuckle.

What are you working on right now?

By the time this blog post comes out, I will have hopefully finished the rough draft of book one of my next series, Come Home dealing with prodigals. The book will be entitled Abigail’s Pursuit. It’s set during the Civil War, which is a backdrop I’ve never done before, so it’s been a bit of a stretch for me.

In three words describe your style of writing.

Hope, quirky, faith.

Looking Out the Window: Memories on the Heart

Several weeks ago my husband, Rick, and I ate at a restaurant we frequent fairly regularly. The cute, young waitress who usually waits on us took our orders for burgers and fries. I’ll call her Mandy. As usual Mandy’s smile and bubbly personality brightened our day. We giggled and confessed to her that we shouldn’t eat the fries, but we were going to do it just this once. She joked. “Okay, you’re being bad today.” Not long after we got our food a couple came in and sat in the booth behind us. Mandy walked up to the table with her big grin. “Hi, how are you?” she asked. The man, who had salt and pepper colored hair and a pudgy face, spoke in a harsh tone, “I want the steak.” “Sure, which one would you like?” Mandy asked. “I don’t want you to put it in the microwave. That will make it tough. Do you understand?” Mandy’s lips turned down. “Yes sir, which one do you want to order?” “I want it medium rare. I don’t want blood oozing out of it. I want it cooked right.” “Yes sir, which steak di

It's my pleasure.  I’m happy to share with you a Bible verse and a recipe, and tell you about my newest book! One of my favorite Bible verses is Romans 10:9.  “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” I love this verse because it distills down the message of Christianity to its simplest elements. So often people add to the gospel, but it really all comes down to our belief in Jesus’ saving work on the cross. This verse tends to make its way into my writing. It’s in my latest novel, Moonlight and Mystery, when the heroine, Beth attends a carnival at a

Psalm 40:1-3‚ “I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.” Can you think of a time when God helped you out of a low place? Perhaps something had caused you to spiral downward, or maybe like the Old Testament character, Jonah, you had run away from God so as not to have to do what He was asking of you.  Through this passage, we see that David was experiencing this first-hand. He was in a place of despair, yet God was gracious, and after some time, placed David in a new area of serv
