Hi Babara, tell us about your Bible verse.
I am a nine-year breast cancer survivor. Praise the Lord! My favorite Bible verses helped me through one of the scariest times in my life. I never dreamed I would be diagnosed with breast cancer, and when I received the news, I was stunned. Especially when my best-case scenario turned into one of the worst-case scenarios. During my two surgeries and radiation treatment, I recited and prayed Philippians 4:4-7. God gave me comfort through His Word. I have these verses memorized and I recite them until this day.
Rejoice in the Lord always. "I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (NIV)
My novel Christmas at Whispering Creek features a young breast cancer survivor who finds love in Tennessee. The story is as lighthearted as a breast cancer novel can be. My personal story is in the back of the book
Now, let’s go to a happier topic…food!
This pecan bar cookie recipe is one of my favorites. It’s easy to make and freezes well.
Butter Pecan Turtle Bars
Ingredients:
1 cup pecans
8oz milk chocolate chips
2 cups flour
½ cup butter softened plus 2/3 cup butter
1 ½ cups firmly packed brown sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Mix together crust ingredients: 2 cups flour, 1 cup packed brown sugar and ½ cup softened butter. Pat firmly into ungreased 13x9x2 pan. Sprinkle pecans over crust.
Prepare caramel layer: In a saucepan combine 2/3 cup butter and ½ cup packed brown sugar. Cook over medium heat stirring constantly until entire surface of mixture begins to boil. Boil for one minute, stirring constantly.
Pour caramel evenly over pecans (which are on top of the crust).
Bake for 18-22 minutes or until the entire caramel layer is bubbly and crust is a light golden brown. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle a cup of milk chocolate chips over the top. Allow chips to melt and then swirl chocolate over the top.
Cool and cut.
Enjoy! You can freeze these as well.
Happy New Year!
The recipe sounds yummy. Happy New Year to you as well.
About Christmas at Whispering Creek
All Samantha Williams wants to do is to use her teaching degree to instruct a classroom of second graders. But, after a breast cancer diagnosis at the age of twenty-three, and failed reconstruction surgery, Sam finds herself without a job and temporarily living with her parents. This isn’t the life Sam expected. When a family friend dies and leaves Sam a house and land in Whispering Creek, Tennessee, Sam must decide if leaving Wisconsin for Southern living is in her lesson plans.
Nashville native, Cole Donoven, left his family’s electrical business to write country music. When Cole’s song-writing partner and girlfriend dumps him for a country music star, Cole abandons Nashville to hole up in Whispering Creek and compose one more song. The last thing Cole expects to find in the sleepy small town is a deceased friend, estate squabbles, and a Northern beauty. Will the chaos in Whispering Creek help create a bestselling song for Cole and possibly help him find a life-long collaborator?
