As I drafted Mistletoe Movie Star, the fun, light-hearted bits came together quickly. I liked Char and Jonas’s backstory; however, the story initially lacked the substance of Mistletoe Melody and Mistletoe Mission, and I longed to write more than an entertaining narrative. I wanted a story that probed deeper. I wanted to write a story that stirred an emotional response while challenging the reader to action. It was at this point that I attended a local city council meeting addressing our growing homeless population.
As winter temperatures dipped to life-threatening lows, concern for those without warm and safe beds grew. Several people from different churches banded together to combine their energy and resources into serving this community that had been surviving in tents. Their passion for the least among us inspired my heroine, Charlene. Char’s drive for those less fortunate in Mistletoe Movie Star shines in her speech to the town council. Her line about the transient community being made in God’s image and deserving of dignity and stability come right from my friend’s speech to our city council.
My hopes for Mistletoe Movie Star changed the night of that meeting. I knew that I wanted a story that was more than pretty snow and sleigh bells, more than Santa slipping down the chimney or leaving out cookies and milk, and I got one. This story became my prayer for my community and yours.
And when you read Mistletoe Movie Star, I pray that you will appreciate anew the gifts bestowed upon you from the Father, I pray that you will be inspired to care for those God has placed in your path. I pray that you will consider how your exact giftedness might be what your community needs to light a dark place. You don’t have to kick-start a winter warming shelter to make a difference in the world. Change can happen one smile, one gift, one soul at a time.

As jingling sleighs cart rosy-cheeked lovers around the Mistletoe Mile, Charlene's holiday dream is more complicated than photo-edited perfection. She proposes a compassion ministry initiative called the Gingerbread House but struggles to convince the town that their need for a homeless shelter is real.
Famous for his made for T.V holiday movies, Jonas longs for a happily-ever-after that isn't as neat and tidy as his scripted films. Partnering with Char to champion her ministry invigorates him with a new purpose and provides an excuse to spend time with the girl he never forgot.
