Looking out the Window: Award-winning Author June Foster and her Daughter and Co-Writer Kelly Cordova Discuss Their Latest Book, The Other Side of the Fairy House

A Warm Welcome to June Foster

What fun to have a Mother / daugther team on Peering Through Life's Window

I'm excited to hear about The Other Side of the Fairy House

June shares one of the stories behind the story - Jason

Last spring, my daughter Kelly and I went to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to do research for our new book, The Other Side of the Fairy House. Besides absorbing the vibes of the Great Smoky Mountains, we explored the real-life location where our story takes place—the former Voorheis property and estate. But in our story, you’ll find Mr. Voorheis’ name is Robert Vanderheim.

Louis Voorheis was a wealthy Yale graduate from Cincinnati in the early 1900s. He wanted a private location where he and his wife could escape the modern world. Thus, he built a rustic style mansion on a 38-acre site. We patterned our story around his life.

The site also featured a stone spring house about which many told stories of fairies and fireflies that paid visits during the winter months. Many tourists go there today, though some have trouble finding it. Fortunately, Kelly had watched a YouTube video which helped us find the spot.

Today the building houses the state fire service. As we walked in front of the building, one of the service employees walked out. A young man named Jason. He told us some fascinating tales. One was about an evening when he heard mysterious flute music coming from somewhere nearby. Perhaps from the woods. He claims the story is true.

So, when you read our Christmas tale, watch for a young man named Jason and the sound of a flute emanating from the forest. You’ll be surprised at what happens afterwards.

More About The Other Side of the Fairy House

Madison Montgomery’s dreams come true when her boss at Cliffside Realty Group sends her to   Travisburg, Tennessee, just days before Christmas to photograph their new listing, an enchanting estate originally adorned with delightful stone basins and fountains. Madison's mission is simple: capture the estate's beauty and, if possible, uncover the mythical Fairy House.

The assignment takes an unexpected turn when Madison discovers she must work with drone operator Ben Taylor, her high school nemesis. As old tensions resurface, Madison and Ben are forced to confront their past.

A sudden accident in the forest leaves Madison unconscious, only to awaken to a bewildering sight: Ben in vintage attire, calling her "ma’am" as if they’ve never met. Has Madison slipped through time to Robert Vanderheim’s era, or is she trapped in a surreal dream?

Madison must navigate a world between past and present, discovering love and the true magic of Christmas along the way. Will she return to her familiar life, or find herself forever changed by the mysteries of Travisburg? And will Ben seize the chance to show Madison the man he's become, and the love he's always had for her?

My mom and I had so much fun exploring Gatlinburg and the surrounding area. It sure got the imagination going and helped me come up with interesting plot points. The best part was doing it with my Mom! What a blessing to work together on this fun story.

Looking Out the Window: Memories on the Heart

Several weeks ago my husband, Rick, and I ate at a restaurant we frequent fairly regularly. The cute, young waitress who usually waits on us took our orders for burgers and fries. I’ll call her Mandy. As usual Mandy’s smile and bubbly personality brightened our day. We giggled and confessed to her that we shouldn’t eat the fries, but we were going to do it just this once. She joked. “Okay, you’re being bad today.” Not long after we got our food a couple came in and sat in the booth behind us. Mandy walked up to the table with her big grin. “Hi, how are you?” she asked. The man, who had salt and pepper colored hair and a pudgy face, spoke in a harsh tone, “I want the steak.” “Sure, which one would you like?” Mandy asked. “I don’t want you to put it in the microwave. That will make it tough. Do you understand?” Mandy’s lips turned down. “Yes sir, which one do you want to order?” “I want it medium rare. I don’t want blood oozing out of it. I want it cooked right.” “Yes sir, which steak di

It's my pleasure.  I’m happy to share with you a Bible verse and a recipe, and tell you about my newest book! One of my favorite Bible verses is Romans 10:9.  “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” I love this verse because it distills down the message of Christianity to its simplest elements. So often people add to the gospel, but it really all comes down to our belief in Jesus’ saving work on the cross. This verse tends to make its way into my writing. It’s in my latest novel, Moonlight and Mystery, when the heroine, Beth attends a carnival at a

Psalm 40:1-3‚ “I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.” Can you think of a time when God helped you out of a low place? Perhaps something had caused you to spiral downward, or maybe like the Old Testament character, Jonah, you had run away from God so as not to have to do what He was asking of you.  Through this passage, we see that David was experiencing this first-hand. He was in a place of despair, yet God was gracious, and after some time, placed David in a new area of serv
